Operating exclusively with timber grown on responsibly managed plantations, the Lomati Mill’s commitment to sustainability extends to maintaining a carbon-negative footprint, as timber acts as a resource that locks in carbon and helps reduce greenhouse gases indirectly. We utilise biofuel to fire our kilns in the drying process, eliminating the need for coal, and we repurpose bark waste into energy through Ngodwana Energy. As one of the largest employers in the Barberton region, Lomati Mill supports the local community by supplying timber offcuts as alternative heating sources. These offcuts are provided to schools, where they are used to prepare meals for feeding schemes, and are also made available at designated community access points as firewood. Through these initiatives and other meaningful partnerships, Lomati Mill addresses vital community needs, such as early childhood development, demonstrating a commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.
